Purpose of the catalogue
The UHENA Public Domain Literature Library aims to provide a curated selection of free ebooks for readers interested in history, archaeology, and classical cultures. Our catalogue highlights works that are in the public domain, primarily sourced from Project Gutenberg, and presents them with editorial notes that help users understand each book's content, style, and context.
Scope and selection
The library currently includes 94 ebooks, organized into four categories. Selection is based on relevance to the library's thematic focus: ancient civilizations, classical cultures, and historical narratives. We prioritize works that offer unique perspectives, notable authorship, or educational value. No books have been added outside these criteria.
Source attribution
All ebooks in the catalogue are sourced from Project Gutenberg, a trusted repository of public-domain texts. Each book record includes a direct link to the ebook on our site, and we clearly state the publisher as Project Gutenberg. We do not alter the original texts; only add editorial notes.
Bibliographic records
Every book entry includes the title, author(s), publisher, keywords, target reader field, and a catalogue note. The catalogue note is written by the editor and summarizes the work's content, narrative style, or scholarly approach. These notes are based on reading and analysis, not automated generation.
Category assignment
Books are assigned to categories based on their primary subject matter, region, or intended audience. Categories are not rigid; some books may fit multiple themes, but we assign them to the most appropriate single category. The four categories are designed to aid navigation, not to serve as definitive literary judgments.
Editorial reading context
Each catalogue note reflects the editor's reading of the work, focusing on elements such as diction, narrative voice, structure, and use of sources. The notes are intended to guide readers, not to provide exhaustive criticism. They are written in a restrained, informative style.
Edition facts and text measurements
Where available, we note the edition and any relevant publication details (e.g., original publication year, translator). Text measurements such as word count are not provided. The focus is on content rather than quantitative analysis.
Recommendations and related works
For each category, we offer three recommended books, chosen for their accessibility, representativeness, or unique insights. Recommendations are based on the editor's assessment and are not intended as definitive endorsements. Related works are suggested through cross-references in catalogue notes.

We do not claim that every book was read in full, though catalogue notes are based on substantial excerpts and analysis. We do not claim peer review, university affiliation, or professional librarian credentials. The catalogue does not use AI-generated content or engage in SEO manipulation. Generic promotional phrases are avoided. The library is a volunteer effort, not a commercial enterprise.
Ongoing maintenance
